Sad News

It has been a sad week with the passing of Peter Coe, a great friend to me and a huge loss to the doll art world. My thoughts are with Paul at this time, funeral is on Friday and hopefully we wil all feel a little better then and get on with the business of remembering what a great personality Peter was, what great fun he could be and the kindness he showed to all.

Feeling sorry for myself.......

It has been a dreadful few days as I nurse one of the worst coughs/cold that I have ever had, still feeling very frail and haven't achieved much in the way of getting organised but I have got a few things ready to work on as soon as I feel able. The Bru heads are ready for painting as are the Heubach heads. I think I will have a big painting drive this weekend and then I can concentrate on bodies and costumes all together.

Happy Easter....

Hope everyone has had a restful weekend and not too much chocolate! we have had a restful few days but nursing rotten colds. We had a pleasant few hours on Painton Pier with bets on how long we could make £1 of 2p pieces last on the slot machines! Tomorrow we are back to normal, housework and re focus on WIP's....... will update you tomorrow.

Another needlefelting adventure

Its been a long week at work this week so very little doing on the doll front. But...I did finish this little fellow to go with his sister. Still not perfect but I think I am getting the hang of it!!

Saturday 15 March 2008

One way or another it has been an unproductive couple of days. I started out yesterday finishing the heubach heads and getting them in the kiln, started the kiln and left it as usual only to return later and discover it had fused, had to wait for the thing to cool, change the plug and reset today....its busy heating up now. Tried to get on with the Bru but with so many interuptions (mainly from friends, so pleasant interuptions!!) that wasn't possible. i did manage to get on with a bit of needlefelting inbetween times. i was quite pleased with this one as it was the first time I'd done something without instruction on my own

Procrastination!

I think at the moment i'm doing everything NOT to get on with that 12" Bru!! I found my needlefelting needles and so I've got distracted with that - I have an Easter bunny in mind and I want to make a little toy dog for the Heubach boys when thay are done (eventually)

Anyway, day off tomorrow get some housework done (minimum of course!) and then to that Bru......hopefully I can report progress tomorrow.

Dollmakers make Friends

Many moons ago when I was teaching more regularly, one of my students, Lyn a very talented craftsperson designed a little cross stitch and made up a little kit for everyone. it was delightful and I thought how appropriate it was. I have made so many wonderful friends through the world of dolls. This is not Lyns design but it is very close and the sentiment is the same.

This was another little project I found lurking in the corner of my workroom. Modern dolls are not my favourite reproductions to make but I do admire the work of Dianne Effner and this little baby was really sweet. the cot is trimmed with vintage laces and that was fun to make too.

Doll club meeting

I do so love going to our doll club meetings. there is so much enthusiasm for all the different types of doll out there. I always come away feeling enthused and ready to get on with my dolls.

I did a painting demonstration and relieved that I do still have control of the brush. The Heubach children are such a delight to paint and relatively easy if you can master those single stroke brows!

I put the knitted bear that I made on the show and tell, at least i did have something to put there this time!

Susie's Sewing Circle

Had another request today to restart the sewing circle. I still have several project outlines although the samples are a little tired and very well handled!

Another thing to put on the list and organise! its nice to know I'm still in demand at least. Found a lovely set of Kewpie patterns today for embroidering. Thats another thing on 'the things I want to do now' list!
